Sonia Sun has almost 20 years of practices in Taiwan and United States law firms, including nearly 9 years of consulting experience in the law and tax practices within one of the “Big Four” professional services firms, in addition to her solid experience as inhouse counsel in both technology and financial sectors. These experiences equipped her with in-depth knowledge and capabilities on critical multi-disciplinary areas such as application of new technology, cross-border M&A, compliance, innovation and enterprises transformation.

Sonia is an expert in enterprise contracts and cross-border legal matters, specializing in cross-border M&A and dispute resolutions, private equity / venture capital, startups / growth enterprise as well as legal and compliance consulting for financial institutions.

With her distinguished experiences and expertise as in-house counsel and cross-discipline consultant, Sonia focuses on two things: delivery of quality expertise and effective communication. She can always consider the impact of present legal topics or current deals from the perspectives of her enterprise clients (both management and working-level staff), then offer holistic views and solutions and convey our professional advice to the stakeholders in a clear and effective way, so that our clients may achieve their expected strategic goals.

Sonia spent over 10 years servicing the domestic startup ecosystem, from fund sources (private equity and venture capital funds) to receiving ends of the funds, i.e. startup firms. Her familiarity with both VC investment process and various challenges faced by startups in scaling up or planning business models – allows her to play a critical communication and negotiation role in many startup fundraising or M&A projects.

Sonia lectured extensively in multiple training institutes, financial industry seminars or startup incubators, and her topics include legal compliance in financial industry, recent developments in fintech, startup financing and legal risks, and cross-border legal risks. Her presentations won praises from different types of audience. She can accommodate the need of different audience and help corporate executives gain a better understanding of complex legal issues.
